MAIN ZINDAGII KAA SAATH NIBHAATAA CHALAA GAYAA

Sahir Saheb ke khazaane kaa ek anmol moti :-

Song : MAIN ZINDAGII KAA SAATH NIBHAATAA CHALAA GAYAA
Movie : Hum Dono
Singer : Mohammad Rafi
Music Director : Jaidev
Lyricist : Sahir Ludhianvi

Main zindagii kaa saath nibhaataa chalaa gayaa
Har fikr ko dhunein mein uRhaataa chalaa gayaa

Barabaadiyon kaa sog manaanaa fizuul thaa
Barabaadiyon kaa jashn manaataa chalaa gayaa

Main zindagii kaa saath nibhaataa chalaa gayaa
Har fikr ko dhunein mein uRhaataa chalaa gayaa

Jo mil gayaa usii ko muqaddar samajh liyaa
Jo kho gayaa main usko bhulaataa chalaa gayaa

Main zindagii kaa saath nibhaataa chalaa gayaa
Har fikr ko dhunein mein uRhaataa chalaa gayaa

Gam aur khushii mein fark na mahasuus ho jahaan
Maiin dil ko us muqaam pe laataa chalaa gayaa

Main zindagii kaa saath nibhaataa chalaa gayaa
Har fikr ko dhunein mein uRhaataa chalaa gayaa

In a forum a question was raised as to what Sahir Saheb wants to convey in this particular couplet :-

Gam aur khushii mein fark na mahasuus ho jahaan
Maiin dil ko us muqaam pe laataa chalaa gayaa

Subject, of course, to what Sahir Saheb really had in his mind and what he actually wanted to convey, I offerred my point of view like this :-

I will like to say that what I can understand of this couplet is that in this couplet Sahir Saheb attempts to convey something spritual. He wants to say that our mental setup should not be affected by either of these two states of mind i.e. happiness and sorrows because both of these states of mind reflect momentary phases (I think kshanbhangur is the right word in Hindi). We should attain such higher intellectual levels and be over and above a normal human being so that our ego levels do not get inflated on getting small small happinesses and do not get deflated on confronting small small sorrows.

I am not sure but I do hope that I have been able to make some justice with what Sahir Saheb wanted to convey through this couplet.
